How to Password-Protect a PDF
Protect a sensitive PDF with a password so it asks for one when opened. Neither the file nor the password is uploaded — everything runs locally in your browser.
Steps
- Click Choose a PDF and upload the file to protect.
- Type the password it should require into New password.
- Press Add password & download to get the protected PDF. Opening it afterwards will require this password.
Good to know
- If you forget the password, it can't be recovered. Store it somewhere safe.
- If the PDF is already locked, unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then set a new password.
All processing happens inside your browser — the PDF and password are never sent to a server.
