How to reduce audio file size

Make an audio file smaller for sharing, voice notes, or game sound effects — in your browser, no upload.

Steps

  1. Choose an audio file.
  2. Adjust the settings:
    • Convert to mono — halves the data versus stereo.
    • Sample rate — lower rates (e.g. 16000 Hz) cut size further; great for speech, less ideal for music.
  3. Reduce size & download. The original and resulting sizes are shown so you can compare.

The output is a WAV at the chosen sample rate. For images instead, see the Image Compressor.
