How to find a fair meeting point (Korea subway)
When a group scattered across a city tries to pick somewhere to meet, the instinct is to find the geographic middle. On a subway network that's the wrong answer. Travel time isn't proportional to distance — a station two stops away on your line is closer in time than one a kilometer away that needs two transfers — and the geographic midpoint is often a station with poor connections that's slow for everyone. This tool ranks stations by actual line and transfer travel time instead, and picks the one that's fairest for the whole group.
How to use it
- Pick a region and enter start stations. Choose the metro — Seoul (Sudogwon), Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, or Gwangju — then add each person's starting station (the field autocompletes from the station list). Up to 10 people.
- Click Find the meeting point.
- Read the ranked results. Each candidate shows every person's travel time and number of transfers, how many lines serve the station, and whether it's a lively area worth meeting in.
What "fairest" means here
The ranking isn't just the lowest average time. It minimizes the worst-off person's commute and the spread between the fastest and slowest arrival, so you don't get a spot that's five minutes for three friends and an hour for the fourth. It also penalizes routes with many transfers, because a trip with three line changes feels far longer than its clock time suggests. On top of that it skips dead stations and gives a bonus to transfer hubs and popular districts — steering toward a place that's actually pleasant to meet at, not an empty platform that merely happens to be central. As a rough example, someone at 청량리 and someone at 가양 get pointed toward roughly 용산 (Yongsan).
Seeing each person's route
Tap any recommended station to expand each person's route — the lines they take, where they transfer, and the station order.
